We are testing a higher-bandwidth stream: 96kbs aacPlus. Please give it a try and let us now what you think. http://208.53.158.48:9552/listen.pls
We'll also convert the mp3 stream to 96k if this works out.

Wow yeah, even on my lap top speakers the sound is very good. Nice, and thank Elliot and DA!

New stream sounds nice

Better bass and fuller sound through my home PC. First test for me happened to be my favorite band (Dream Theater) so I will stick to CD or mobile flac but I love learning about new bands - Thanks DA!

(And VLC opens the link fine...)

I’ve been using it for the last 3 days and it’s pretty stable. Thanks Elliot 8)

The overall fidelity seems noticeably improved on the 96K.
You guys should really get rid of the heavy audio compression, though. Sounds overly squashed at times. I can understand it on actual radio broadcasts but whats the reason on digital streams?

We use a little compression to keep the volume even across songs. I was wondering if anyone would notice.

We are also going to bring up another stream, without aacPlus, just MP3. http://208.53.158.48:9564/listen.pls. See if you notice any difference. The improvement of aacPlus over MP3 diminishes as the bitrate gets higher, and at 96k, we're in a middle ground. In fact, some think we should just forget aacPlus at 96k.

Many players have volume leveling plugins such as winamp and Linux players. I think it should be left to the user. At least reduce the effect - its extremely squashed. Also it seems you often play stuff that is already compressed and the effect is double. I understand its only internet radio though but this affect is too dramatic.

No :!: if the 80k streams are going away, please use the 96k aacPlus, or if you want mp3 make it 128k. Please don't make your maximum quality 96k mp3. 128k mp3 is barely acceptable.
Thanks for the great station though, I have discovered numerous great musics over the years!
