I've never regarded Elton John as progressive rock... maybe when he first started but he went very commercial very quickly

Actually his most progressive record was Blue Moves in 1976, well after his "commercial period". The critics hated it, which was great in my opinion. I don't regard him as "progressive rock either". Truthfully, I never thought Pink Floyd was that progressive either. But both are great. We play plenty of "genre bending" music - I think in any given day you'll hear some non-prog. "Delicious Agony for the most part Progressive Rock Radio" is a bit unwieldy :)

That's funny: I remember writing in rec.music.progressive (a lifetime ago!) that I'd never really thought of Pink Floyd as "progressive". I do now, though! Perhaps I've been brainwashed? They're one of the all-time great bands, anyway. Such variety, and such staying power! Few can rival them.

I hate to quote Billy Joel but it's still rock and roll to me...all good!

This mini thread is too coincidental for me to not comment. When I was still young enough that I was yet to buy my own albums, still getting hand me downs and/or gifts, there were two records in particular that really got their hooks in me (disregarding the Beatles). Those being Goodbye Yellow Brick Road & The Stranger. To this day I still credit the songs "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" & "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" as the seeds that quickly germinated into my love of "prog rock".

Both are played almost every time by a wonderful cover band in my area "Carey Ziegler's Expensive Hobby". They also play "Green-Eyed Lady" which is my all-time favorite song and one I also consider progressive. Great comment thanks!

Prompted by JM on TGA just now, I can't resist mentioning (it's definitely not prog rock - sorry!) another great BBC "Sight and Sound" performance: Loudon Wainwright III, 25 Feb 1978.

And if you get a chance, please check out my interview with him from October of last year. About 15 minutes. He's a delight.

Great thanks Mr Rick- I found the interview in the list but I'll have a listen when I re-install winamp (ditched it a while ago).
