From what I have heard, "Close to the Edge". But I am admittedly not as knowledgeable about Yes as I would like to be.

SHAME ON YOU!

i voted for the gates of delirium. the reson its the best? becuse it feels way shorter than its actual leingth. in fact to me everything up untill the line "pounding out the devels sermon" feels about 2 mins long. and the 'soon' section feel like it is only 3 mins. and everything inbetween those two sections is fierce instramentle perfection (heck the whole song is). in fact if the south side of the sky show was on right now i'd recuest it.

8)

I know. :smt022

I'm going to try to tune in to the "South Side of the Sky" program to see if I can hear more. And I need to pay some more attention to Tales from Topographic Oceans. :)

 I thought that might have been the case. I still like it a lot, even though I only have a handful of those. :)

Well, ALL of Topographic Oceans is one epic to me with four movements. The last one with all drumming I've seen live several times, including with Moraz !! 1975 Vancouver. Various ones with Wakeman, usually side 3., 1.e. Going for the One tour and Union tour, both Vancouver, B.C.

Awaken to me is a credo, not an epic.. Gates of Delirium is the best true battle epic, but Moraz is not typical of Yes. I know and play Chris' parts to it and they are FAB, always working on figuring out how Moraz got his stuff done: I have no Orchestron emulator not can I get the slinky thunder working mike-wise..
Gates for one-shot and satisfaction, Awaken for spirituality and all of Topo for true long-term journeying.

Well...I agree with you on Topo Oceans.

You have to be a true hard-core fan to get into that double album
to begin with. Once you are caught under it's spell it becomes a true epic
of all time. No band that I know of has ever undertaken such
an intense "life style" project such as Topo.

Except for Aphrodite's Child: 666 ( Vangelis Papathanassiou's first band ).

Yes epics..

I CANNOT believe that 'CTTE' is more popular than 'Gates of delirium' or 'Awaken'. 'CTTE' always sounded 'pieced together' to me, I love the song, but I feel Yes learnt alot about how to and how NOT to write epics while doing 'Topographic oceans'. 'Gates..' is ONE piece of music, not 'parts' or segments glued together, so in that sense it is really in a class with very few other epic songs...

I said my piece, sure I will be yelled down..

Well, producers/Yes have to stop releasing "Soon" as a separate fade-in studio track: Jon DID arrive in the studio with it in his head as a unit , but "GatesoDelirium IS a suite.
It's fine to hear Jon sing it with acoustic guitar , but I never want to hear it again just clipped out of "Gates" as a cheesy add-on to a collection CD.
It's wrong, dishonest and does not work without the rest of "Gates" as a lead-up.
